How to find VA-approved lenders
In order to take advantage of the VA Home Loan Guarantee Service, an eligible veteran must first find a VA approved lender. Not all lenders are approved by the VA to process loans through their guarantee service, but there are various lenders all over the United States that are approved by the VA. The question is, how do you find a VA approved home lender so that you can use the program?
The VA makes it very simple to find various approved lenders in your area. If you go to VA Loan Government Site you will see a map which can guide you to the lenders in your area. Either input your zip code into the space provided, or click on an area of the map. If you put in your zip code and hit submit, you will quickly get a list of all the VA approved lenders in your zip code area. If you click on the map, it will ask you for either a city or zip code, and then give you a list of all the VA approved lenders in the area of the city or zip code you provide.
Be sure to contact several lenders and shop for a mortgage before you make a final decision on which lender to borrow from. Interest rates and terms will be different from lender to lender, and by submitting your information to a few different lenders, you can be sure to get the mortgage terms that are best for your situation.
Also be certain to check with the lenders you contact to make sure they are still VA approved. The list of VA lenders on the internet is a great source to find an approved lender, but circumstances change, and it is possible that a lender on the list is no longer VA approved and has not been properly removed from the list yet. To be safe, ask the lending company if they are VA approved before you waste your time and theirs shopping for a mortgage loan.
